Alumni Webinar Conversation and Q&A with Duchess Harris Race and Policing: History and Possibilities for the Future

Challenging conversations are happening across the United States as people focus on the purpose and actions of police departments, particularly their disproportionate focus and impact on policing black and minority lives. With current protests and calls to defund or abolish the police, it is critical to understand the deeper structural issues that cause racism to perpetuate in policing. Join our global Macalester alumni community for a Zoom webinar with Professor Duchess Harris, American Studies, to learn about race and policing. Harris, author of the book Race and Policing, will talk about the historical institutions and laws that underpin today’s system and what police departments and the communities they serve are doing to improve communication and relationships. A large part of the program will be a time for your questions in a Q&A.

To actively participate in the Q&A and chat features of the webinar please plan to join online. If you don’t currently have Zoom, you can download it here: https://zoom.us/download. If joining from your phone or tablet you will need to get the free Zoom app from your devices app store.

If you do not have the ability to access online, there will also be a phone number to join by telephone instead. If you have any questions, please email [email protected].
