Mindy Deardurff

Kagin Commons, 106

My name is Mindy and I am the Dean of Career Exploration, leading the fabulous and dedicated team of career educators at Macalester. Take the first step and come in to see us – we’ve got you. Really.

I worked more than 40 hours per week between three jobs while going to college full-time. I wouldn’t recommend it.

I did research in high school as part of the International Science and Engineering Fair program, but when I came to college I couldn’t afford to do unpaid research or an internship, so I had to give it up. Instead, I worked in the dining hall, as a nanny, and in retail. For years, people recognized me on campus because I refilled the milk in the dining hall cafeteria.

My dad was a janitor and although I am not Native American, I grew up on the Standing Rock reservation in North Dakota. I am a fierce advocate for first generation students and those working hard to pay their way through college.

I have a Master’s in Human Resources and Industrial Relations and an undergraduate degree in Psychology/Educational Psychology from the University of Minnesota.

In my free time you’ll find me planning my next national park adventure, growing a middling vegetable garden, on the sidelines at a middle school soccer game, or happily wearing safety googles and in way over my head on a house project.
