Macalester Alumni can be a great resource when exploring particular majors, career fields, industries or specific organizations. The Career Development Center can help maximize your interactions with Alumni.
Access to the Alumni Database. Request an alumni listing that matches your selection criteria. Using the Alumni Information Request Form, we can search by major, geographic location, graduate school, organization and by occupation. Because of the diversity of Macalester graduates, most times we can find an alum in your field of interest. Call or stop by to discuss your search with a career counselor.
MacDirect, the Online Alumni Directory. Juniors and seniors can access MacDirect, the online alumni directory at macdirect.macalester.edu. You can search for alumni based on their major, location, employer, occupation, job title, industry and more. Alumni with the Career Helper icon are especially interested in having career conversations with students and are looking forward to hearing from you. Please contact Neely Heubach ’06 at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
Informational Interviews. Meet with an alum to learn more about a particular field or industry. It’s also a great starting point to gain helpful search strategies. Many alumni remember when they were asking others for informational interviews. Now they want to provide that same resource to you.
Alumni Panels. The Career Development Center partners with academic departments to bring in alums from a wide variety of backgrounds. Many times these panels demonstrate that regardless of your chosen major, you can be successful in a broad range of fields. While these events provide great information, get there a little early and stay a bit late – hopefully, you’ll have a one-on-one conversation with the Macalester graduate. Upcoming panels are listed on our events schedule.
Macalester Alumni can be an immense source of information as you decide your next steps during and after your time at Macalester. You do not have to do it alone! Stop by our office to see how alumni can help.
