Information for Graduates

Commencement Eligibility

All December and January Graduates, May candidates, and other candidates who are within eight credits of completing all requirements, assuming successful completion of spring courses, are eligible to participate in the Commencement ceremony.  If you have questions about your eligibility or requirements to graduate please contact the Registrar’s Office at registrar@macalester.edu. Eligible Graduates choosing to participate in the December graduation celebration will receive information around the end of October each year.

What do I need to know?

More information and deadline dates on tasks to take care of before Commencement can be found on the Graduation Checklist page. If you have questions, please reach out to the individual department/office, or email studentaffairs@macalester.edu.

Gowns, Caps, Graduation Announcements and Keepsake Items

Orders for a rental gown, cap and tassel can be made through the Herff Jones ordering website by the April 2, 2022 deadline. No orders can be accepted via the order site after April 2, 2022. The Highlander bookstore can assist with information if you were not able to order your regalia by the April 2 deadline. This site will also offer graduation announcements and a number of other keepsake items. The rental gown will need to be returned after the ceremony, but the cap and tassel are yours to keep. Gown return will be held directly after the Commencement ceremony at the Leonard Center Portico. Please be sure to turn your gown in so your card is not charged additional fees.

Ticketing

Plans are in the works to develop the ticketing process for 2022 Commencement. More information will be shared as details become available. If you or a guest require accessible seating or specific accommodations, please complete this FORM.

Senior Class Gift

Macalester’s annual Senior Class Gift Campaign is led by a committee of students supported by staff in the Macalester Fund office. The campaign is a longstanding tradition and encourages all seniors to give a gift to begin a lifetime of giving back in celebration of their graduation.
