Curtis Gilbert is a correspondent for APM Reports, an investigative reporting group based at American Public Media. His recent work has focused on the factors that lead police to use deadly force—including training, psychology and technology. He and his reporting partner, Tom Scheck, published a series of stories in 2016 that led to the closure of the largest privately run juvenile correctional facility in Minnesota. He also contributed to both seasons of the Peabody Award-winning podcast In the Dark. Curtis previously worked as a reporter and producer at Minnesota Public Radio News. He has also dabbled in video journalism, winning three regional Emmy Awards for a series of web videos explaining the mechanics of issues ranging from constitutional amendments to local transit planning. In 2007, he received an Arthur F. Burns Fellowship to report for Deutsche Welle in Bonn, Germany. Curtis graduated from Macalester in 2002, with a major in communication and media studies and a minor in music.
