{"id":192,"date":"2017-11-09T21:36:48","date_gmt":"2017-11-09T21:36:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/entrepreneurship\/prototype-test\/"},"modified":"2024-04-05T17:39:25","modified_gmt":"2024-04-05T17:39:25","slug":"prototype-test","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/entrepreneurship-and-innovation\/macathon\/prototype-test\/","title":{"rendered":"Prototype Test"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prototype Test<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Prototype test will be conducted by one tech judge before the semi-final presentation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All coding and prototyping must be done by this time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Testing takes 10 minutes and the tech judge will check your coding, prototype, and\/or demo and score based on the criteria at the bottom of this page.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-family: NewslabMedium, georgia, Baskerville, 'Baskerville Old Face', 'Hoefler Text', 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 1.75rem;\">Prototype Test Criteria<\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>We are looking for prototypes that are &#8220;realistic&#8221; in respect to a real world situation in which they would have to pitch to real investors. That is, the technology is strong enough to make a solution promising and the team is strong enough and has a plan that inspires confidence in the team&#8217;s ability to achieve their goals. An MVP consists of the simplest version of a solution that is sufficient to demonstrate the intended use cases and test a solution&#8217;s ability to solve real users&#8217; pain points. Thanks to Macathon alumni Francesco Nutricado \u201817 and Marcio Lima Porto \u201817 for their work on this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MVP-Complete Scale: <strong>10 points<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>MVP Tech Completeness<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Points<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>The team&#8217;s idea requires a technological piece (should be true for all teams, not necessarily code), but your team does not have a plan to achieve it.<\/td><td><strong>0<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>You have a \u201ccredible\u201d and detailed plan to complete the technology piece of your solution. You can articulate what general category of software you need. (\u201cWe will build a mobile app.\u201d)<\/td><td><strong>2<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>You can articulate the general architecture and major subsystems of your software. (\u201cWe will need a mobile client, a server with a database, and external APIs to provide weather conditions and widget colors.\u201d)<\/td><td><strong>3<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>You have a proof of concept.<\/td><td><strong>5<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>You have a detailed plan, you built a piece of your final solution with the right technologies. This \u201cpiece\u201d can be used as a demonstration of your solution and will be part of your final product (It is not to be scratched and done in a completely different way after Macathon).<\/td><td><strong>7<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>You built a working MVP of your technology with at least one use case appropriately satisfied. This solution is potentially scalable to the size of your target customers\/audience.
