Speakers: Shanai Matteson and Annie Humphrey, Village Artists<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The goals of Fire in the Village are to create art and culture experiences in small communities and cities to remind people that we are made of earth and we are power. These concerts and workshops center on themes of shared connection with land and water, the importance of free thinking and creative expression, and care of our communities in tumultuous times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Shanai Matteson is a writer, an artist, and a cultural organizer. She had devoted much of her adult life to encouraging others to create and find community, to protect water, and to seek justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Annie Humphrey is enrolled with the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe. She resides on the Leech Lake Reservation with three generations under her roof. Annie is a visual artist, singer\/songwriter, carpenter, veteran (USMC), grandmother and woodswoman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This EnviroThursday is co-sponsored by the Environmental Studies Department and Media and Cultural Studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ever wonder how professors spend their summers? Join us for this special EnviroThursday during which members of the Environmental Studies Department will each take 5 minutes to talk about their recent or ongoing research projects.
