\n The Macalester Sustainability Office has designated a portion of its funding to support small on-campus projects that promote sustainability through creative and innovative action. If possible, projects should encourage collaboration between faculty, staff, and students. An individual or a group can apply for up to $1,000 in funding. \n Davis Projects for Peace is an initiative for all students at the Davis United World College Scholars Program partner schools to design their own grassroots projects for peace that they themselves will implement anywhere in the world. Through a nationwide competition, projects are selected for funding at $10,000 each.\n

\n The Action Fund<\/em> is designed to support projects that are initiated and led by students. Eligible projects are those that inspire informed, committed action<\/em>. In other words, projects must have both an action and educational component. “Action” may take the form of civic engagement within the Twin Cities community (or other places in special circumstances), community building between Macalester and its local community, or other projects where students are involved in strengthening communities. “Education” may take the form of facilitating group reflection before, during or after experiences in the community, educating the campus on the issue the project addresses or sharing the \u201clessons learned\u201d from the project with other students.\n

\n EPA’s P3 \u2013 People, Prosperity, and the Planet\u2014Program is a unique college competition for designing solutions for a sustainable future. P3 offers students quality hands-on experience that brings their classroom learning to life.\u00a0 The competition has two phases. For the first phase of the competition, teams are awarded a $15,000 grant to develop their idea. They bring the design in April to the National Sustainable Design Expo in Washington DC to compete for the P3 Award and a grant of $90,000 to take their design to real world application.\n

\n The Morris K. Udall Scholarship Program was created to encourage current sophomores and juniors to pursue careers related to environmental policy. Macalester may nominate three students who have outstanding potential and intend to pursue careers in environmental public policy. The scholarship pays a yearly stipend to help students complete their undergraduate education. Campus application deadline: February 17, 2012.\n
