Participants may enroll on either a credit or non-credit basis.

2.  Common Tides Summer Opportunities

Common Tides, whose mission as a non-profit organization is to inspire passion through ocean education and stewardship to create positive change,  has two program offerings in the U.S. Virgin Islands for summer 2023.

  • Internship Expedition – The Internship Expedition is aimed at providing free marine science and sailing programs to local children that are experiencing disadvantages and is open to all genders and majors.
  • Women’s Leadership Expedition – The Women’s Leadership Expedition (WLE) is an immersive, experiential program that is centered around leadership education and stewardship with a focus on providing women the knowledge to become the optimal version of themselves as a conscious leader.

There is a fee for the participants which covers their food, stay on the sailboat, and training. Here’s a short video to visually show the impacts their programs have.

3.  Grace Year Fellowship

Message from The Rev. Alison Quin, Program Director for Grace Year:

I am the director of Grace Year, an Episcopal Service Corps program in the Hudson Valley. Five recent college graduates each year are invited to live together in intentional community in Millbrook, NY, about 90 minutes north of New York City. The fellows serve the community by working at local nonprofits and spend time reflecting on their experience, through the lenses of spirituality, social justice and leadership. Our goal is to assist fellows in clarifying their values, deepening their spirituality, and learning professional skills to sustain them for a lifetime of transforming leadership.

Fellows work for 32 hours each week in the areas of immigration advocacy, youth empowerment, ecojustice and conservation, feeding programs and food justice, racial justice, and disability services. Weekly seminars provide opportunities for learning about various spiritual practices and faiths, servant leadership and community organizing, vocation and discernment. Housing, food, and transportation are provided and fellows are also given a monthly stipend and a relocation bonus at the end of their term.

Applications open on December 1, 2023, for the 2023-2024 program year, starting in August. Women, people of color, LGBTQ people, and students with diverse faith backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Undocumented students are also welcome to apply.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email [email protected] or see our website.
