1.  Macalester Queer Oral History Project

Message from Ryan Cotter, Class of 2024:

I hope this finds you safe and well. My name is Ryan and I am a part of the steering committee for the GSRC’s Queer Oral History Project. The project is focused on gathering oral accounts of queer students in their experience with engaging with Macalester activist/countercultural history, as well as other notable anecdotes they wish to share. We are currently looking to recruit students interested in not only having their stories archived (especially upperclassmen who were here during the George Floyd uprisings, Enbridge protests, zoom era etc.) and those interested in joining our team in conducting and editing the interviews.

If you want to share your store, complete this interest form.

2.  Lake Minnetonka Garden Club Scholarship

The Lake Minnetonka Garden Club (LMGC)  is offering scholarships. The LMGC is affiliated with the Garden Club of America. Part of the mission of the Club is to stimulate knowledge and love of gardening, horticulture, garden history and design, and to restore, improve and protect the quality of the environment through action in the field of conservation. They have chosen to create our scholarship to ensure that local students are supported.

In order to award scholarships for the 2022 spring term, the completed LMGC scholarship application deadline is December 18, 2022.

8.   Internships with Univ. of MN Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve

Are you passionate about ecology and interested in working at one of the top ecological research stations in the world? Would firsthand experience in some of the world’s longest-running and best-known field experiments benefit you in your future career path? If so, Cedar Creek is the place for you!

The University of Minnesota’s Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve (CDR LTER) is a world-renowned destination for long-term research and researchers. Science conducted onsite has shaped the way we think about ecosystems, biodiversity, land management, animal movement, global change, and many other topics. Our LTER research plays a critical role in advancing our understanding of how we are affecting the environment and how we might protect it.

The CDR LTER has several opportunities for students and recent undergraduates to work as plant community ecology interns. Most positions run from June through August, but some interns are needed as early as March or as late as October. Your educational institution may be able to approve this internship, with an appropriate independent project, for any field biology requirement of your major. As a research intern, you will contribute to ongoing field experiments, may have the opportunity to initiate individual research, attend scientific presentations, and interact with professors, post-docs, and graduate students. If you are an undergraduate or a newly graduated student with a background or interest in biology, ecology, environmental science, botany, environmental education, or related field, you are encouraged to apply.
