Curriculum Vitae

Professor Marla Perez Lugo is an environmental sociologist with an interest in energy governance, environmental justice and disasters.  She is a full professor at the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez and a Hubert Humphrey Distinguished Visiting Professor at Macalester for the Academic year 2020-21. She is also a co-founder of the Puerto Rico’s National Institute for Energy and Island Sustainability and the RISE Network, an inter-university collaborative platform that redefines the role of universities in disasters. Her work has been published in several international journals such as Sociological Inquiry, Organizations and the Environment, the Professional Geographer and the IEEE.  Her current research revolves around energy transitions in Puerto Rico.
