Macalester students who are U.S. Citizens/Permanent Residents must reapply for financial aid each year. Please review the steps and information below to guide you through the process. Be sure to file your FAFSA by May 15, 2017 to ensure timely delivery of results.
Apply for Aid: October-May
To reapply for financial aid, returning Macalester students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For the 2017-2018 academic year, two aspects of the FAFSA are changing: it will be available starting on October 1, 2016, and it will use 2015 financial information. Please make sure to file your FAFSA between October 1, 2016 and May 15, 2017.
If possible, please use the IRS data retrieval tool to securely transfer tax information from the IRS to the FAFSA.
Submit Additional Documents: January-May
Some FAFSAs are selected for a verification process by the Department of Education. If your FAFSA is selected for verification, you will need to submit additional documents to the Financial Aid Office before we can review your FAFSA and determine your eligibility for aid.
If your family has had a change in financial circumstances from last year, you can submit additional documents to us so we can determine whether your circumstances affect your eligibility for aid.
If you have a sibling who will also be enrolled as an undergraduate student for the 2017-2018 academic year, please complete the Household and Sibling Enrollment Form.
Review and Accept Your Aid: June
If you complete your financial aid application by mid-May, you will receive next year's financial aid eligibility notification by mid-June. If you complete your financial aid application after mid-May, we will review and send a response as soon as possible after receipt. Aid applications received after mid-May will still receive full consideration.
When you receive your financial aid eligibility notification, review it carefully in order to understand the aid that you have been awarded. Descriptions of different types of aid are available in our About section. Please contact us if you have any questions about your financial aid package.
Once you have reviewed your financial aid package, make sure to log in to 1600grand to accept or decline your loans.
Estimate Your Bill: June-July
Fall semester billing statements are produced by the Student Accounts office in mid-July, with payment due in mid-August.
