The Macalester College Law Warschaw Gallery is pleased to announce the exhibition Spiders and Insects: Recent Videos by Julia Oldham.

Julia Oldham has described this body of work by saying:

“My artworks are meditations on insect communication and navigation. I engage in a mimetic way in the activities of insects and other invertebrates. Initially, this process feels repetitive and chaotic and requires endurance; however, a pattern emerges as I continue to behave as an insect. I manipulate speed and sound when editing the footage to emphasize these patterns of the performance, and the results are dance-like and rhythmic.”

Ms. Oldham’s videos have been exhibited at, among others, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, Illinios, the Kasia Kay Gallery in Chicago, Illinois, the Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art in Nashville, Tennessee and at INPORT, the International Video-Performance Arts Festival in Tallinn, Estonia.
