Celeste NelmsCeleste Nelms: Recent Work

November 1 – December 5, 2008
Artist’s Reception: Saturday, Nov 1.
7:00 to 9:00 pm

The Macalester College Law Warschaw Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Celeste Nelms: Recent Work. This solo exhibition consists of Nelms’ inventive installation of her sepia toned photographs. These self-portraits feature Nelms as a character introducing found objects into the natural world. A wide range of experiences and reactions are elicited. These scenes can be puzzling or humorous. They raise questions concerning human interactions with nature and history’s often-unacknowledged presence in common culture.

Nelms describes the intent of this process “is to record the dynamics of organic nature and human experience. This action links my human presence with the “natural world” and provides an honest sense of place as to how I am connected to it.”
