When the old Weyerhauser Library’s interior was being demolished for remodeling, members of the Macalester College Art Department made a remarkable discovery. Hidden for decades in the basement was a portfolio of historic European and American prints spanning the time between the 16th century and the 1920s. Authenticated with the generous assistance of Richard Campbell, Curator of prints and Drawings at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the collection was framed and assembled into an exhibition in 1991. Since then the prints have been hung in various places across campus. Now, almost twenty years later, in honor of the Mid American Print Council’s annual conference being held in Minneapolis, the Macalester College Law Warschaw Gallery is assembling a selection of these prints for an exhibition in the gallery. Following the exhibition the prints will be installed permanently, as a group, in the Dewitt Wallace Library.
