Since 2005, the Midwest Undergraduate Geography Symposium (MUGS) has been hosted annually by a rotation of Geography programs in the Midwest, providing undergraduates the opportunity to present their research at a formal Geography symposium. MUGS 2021 will be hosted virtually<\/em> by Macalester College on Saturday, April 24, 2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Student Opportunities<\/strong>
<\/strong>1. Presentation (Paper): A 15-minute presentation.  The paper presentation allows for a more in depth look at or research topic within geography. Presentations will be grouped into sessions based on relevance\/topic. Examples:  Capstone Project, Honors Project, or any in depth Geography research project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Presentation (Lightning): A 5-minute presentation. The lightning paper session is a group of very short presentations summarizing recent research or studies. A maximum of 8 PowerPoint slides per presentation. Examples: Course research paper, poster, cartographic\/GIS\/remote sensing project, or preliminary research for an upcoming project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Attend: Students can simply attend the conference and are not required to present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abstracts<\/strong>
Abstracts (maximum 200 words) are due no later than April 2nd<\/sup> and are required for both paper and lightning presentations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note:  All MUGS sessions will run virtually via the Zoom platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
