David Lanegran is a professor emeritus in the Geography Department.\u00a0 He continues to love geography and exploring the cities of the world and rural Minnesota. He has a special interest in historic maps of Minnesota and the use of historic maps as primary documents in social studies education.<\/p>\n

Since retiring from full-time teaching in 2015, he continues to collaborate with faculty and students and co-coordinates the Minnesota Alliance for Geographic Education<\/a>, a group of educators who advocate for geographic literacy.<\/p>\n

HIGHLIGHTS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lanegran Received the Award from the Association of American Geographers
\n<\/strong>Geography Professor David Lanegran, recognized for devoting “a large measure of his distinguished career to the advancement of geographic education and for his work,” has received the Association of American Geographers’ (AAG) Gilbert Grosvenor Honors for Geographic Education award.<\/p>\n

The AAG citation went on to say Lanegran has, for the past 40 years, “pioneered, participated in, and shaped every significant movement in geography education at both K-12 and university levels.”<\/p>\n

Lanegran recieved the 2008 NCGE George J. Miller Award<\/strong><\/p>\n
