The department offers language training at all levels as well as a major and a minor in German Studies. Students who have taken at least 2 semesters of German may live in the <em>Deutsches<\/em><em> Haus,<\/em> Macalester\u2019s on-campus immersion residence hall directed by a resident native-speaking instructor. Students with 4 or more semesters of German may participate in Macalester\u2019s 6-month study abroad program in Berlin and Vienna.
