Recent and forthcoming course offerings include \u201cReading Marx,\u201d \u201cFreedom and Its Discontents,\u201d \u201cAmerica Made in Europe,\u201d \u201cThe Fairy Tale (Grimms to Disney),\u201d \u201cOur Cyborgs, Ourselves,\u201d and \u201cIntroduction to Comparative Literature: Short Forms\u201d (co-taught with Andrew Billing). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His publications include a book on Kant and Sade (Wayne State UP, 2003), a critical edition of Moses Mendelssohn\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aisthesis.de\/Mendelssohn-Moses\">1783 treatise on Judaism and religious power <\/a>(Aisthesis, 2001), articles on Kant, Marx, Adorno, and the 18th-century German-Jewish philosopher Salomon Maimon, and several co-edited books and journal issues on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.suhrkamp.de\/buch\/saekularisierung-t-9783518298039\">history of the theory of the secular <\/a>(Suhrkamp, 2020), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diaphanes.de\/titel\/noch-einmal-anders-3377\">the poetics of seriality, short forms in literature<\/a>, and on the challenges faced by the notion of a shared common sense since the 18th century titled <a href=\"https:\/\/muse.jhu.edu\/issue\/53805\">sensus non-communis<\/a>. Recent articles include \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/muse.jhu.edu\/article\/945082\">Expropriating Antisemitism: Universal Noncommonality in Marx&#8217;s \u2018On the Jewish Question<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/staatsbibliothek-berlin.de\/emedien-meldungen\/login-hinweis\/\">Anecdotal Remains: America or the Empiricism of Adorno\u2019s Minima Moralia<\/a>\u201d; forthcoming are \u201cOn Power in an Extra-Secular Sense: Kant\u2019s Sublime\u201d (for the Cambridge Handbook on Kant and Literary Studies) and \u201cLiterarizit\u00e4t und Sprachigkeit: Zu Tomer Gardis broken german\u201d (for the Schiller-Jahrbuch).<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2011, Martyn was resident scholar at the Center for Literary and Cultural Studies in Berlin (ZfL) and the Friedrich Schlegel Graduate School for Literary Studies at the Free University of Berlin. In 2021, he was Mercator Visiting Professor at the DFG Graduate Training Group \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.grk-gegenwart.uni-bonn.de\/de\">Contemporary\/Literature.
