A former Fulbright Scholar in Bolivia and Research Fellow at the University of Minnesota Center for Global Health and Social Responsibility, her research examines experiences of GBV and barriers to contraception among adolescents and young adults in rural Bolivian communities. He received his BA from Vassar College and his PhD from the University of Texas. Professor Capello\u2019s teaching explores local and global identity, racial difference and power, and the relationship between arts, politics, and the state in Latin America. His scholarship emphasizes transnational imaginaries, urban history, visual culture, mountains, and the history of cartography.<\/p>\n<p>Hobbies include backgammon, British murder mysteries, and          <p><p>At the KAIGC, he will be writing two chapters from his book project,\u00a0<em>Equator Imagined: Commemorating and Contesting Geodesic Science in the Andes<\/em>, which focuses on commemoration of an 18th-century French mission to measure the curvature of the earth at the equator and its subsequent contestation by Indigenous Kichwa populations and allies.<\/p>\n<p>He hopes to help develop programming at Mac with community partners in Ecuador, exploring Indigenous ways of knowing.<\/p><\/p>\n\t                    <\/div>\n\t                <\/accordion-container-panel>\n\t Elkins<\/a> is Associate Professor of English &amp; Creative Writing at Macalester College. Grounded in archival research and collaboration, her practice animates hidden histories and infrastructures as a form of social engagement situated in place.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.morganadamson.info\/film\">A Glimpse Into Her Work<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Brutal Utopias (2023)<\/p>\n<p>Her recent award-winning documentary, <em>Brutal Utopias<\/em> (2023), is an essay on the struggle to define social utopia through architecture. She is the author of a book on political cinema, <em>Enduring Images: A Future History of New Left Cinema <\/em>(University of Minnesota Press, 2018), in addition to numerous scholarly and popular essays.<\/p>\n<p>After the Industrial River: Essay Collection<\/p>\n<p>Taking as a starting point its concerns with the past infrastructural interventions into the Mississippi River as well those developments still to come, three of Field Station 1\u2019s primary organizers, Morgan Adamson, Bruce Braun, and Roopali Phadke, have commissioned a collection of essays to explore these conditions further. In this introductory text, they foreground the entanglement of social, political and ecological tributaries that comprise the post-industrial river and are considered in the essays that follow.<\/p>\n<p>Enduring Images: A Future History of New Left Cinema (University of Minnesota Press, 2018)<\/p>\n<p>A timely reassessment of political film culture in the 1960s and \u201970s, Enduring Images examines international cinematic movements of the New Left in light of sweeping cultural and economic changes of that era. Tenured faculty, pre-tenure faculty who have completed the third-year review and NTT faculty members are eligible to apply. One faculty fellow will be named each academic year; the fellow will be granted two course releases by the Provost\u2019s Office during the fellowship year.
