The mission of the Laurie Hamre Center for Health & Wellness is to create a healthy community by working with students to achieve physical, emotional and social well-being while promoting the value of life-long learning and health.
The Laurie Hamre Center for Health & Wellness is located in the Leonard Center. Handicapped parking is available at the south building entrance. Other parking is available on Snelling Avenue or a side street. On the College Campus Map, we are in building 11.
Students can schedule individual appointments with the Macalester counseling staff. We also provide a wide variety of on-campus support groups available to our students. A psychiatrist is also available, on a very limited basis, for appointments by referral from the Macalester medical staff.
Primary care services are provided for full-time registered students by a physician, nurse practitioners, a registered nurse, and a medical assistant.
A certified health educator assisted by student health promotion assistants, leads the health promotion initiatives for the campus.
The Laurie Hamre Center for Health & Wellness oversees the health insurance enrollment for Macalester. All Macalester students are required to have health insurance—either their own or the plan offered by Macalester.
