Counseling Clinical Training Program
Our Site: Macalester College Counseling Services serves as a clinical training site for practicum trainees who have completed at least one year of supervised training, and are interested in serving young adults in a college setting. The goal of Macalester’s training program is to prepare doctoral practicum trainees with a focused, intense experience in providing ethically-informed clinical services to a college population. The Health & Wellness Center is an integrated health care unit of which Counseling Services is a part, and thus the site offers the opportunity to work holistically and in collaboration with psychologists, psychiatrists, physicians, nurse practitioners, health educators and other allied health care professionals.
Position: Provide individual short-term mental health counseling and crisis intervention.As opportunity presents, practicum students may be invited to co-facilitate support groups, and/or participate in other projects of interest. Practicum students may also have opportunity to work collaboratively with other student affairs departments in the provision of workshops or presentations.
Fifteen to twenty hours per week during the academic calendar, September-May. Must be available Monday mornings to attend counseling staff meetings and case consultations. Supervision provided by on site doctoral-level licensed psychologists. The site retains two practicum students each year.
Qualifications: Doctoral student status in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, social work or related program. Interest and abilities in working with diverse college student populations. Demonstrated counseling, presentation and writing skills. Initiative and strong sense of ethics.
