The College awards honorary degrees to formally recognize and honor people for preeminent achievement in their professions or in service to society. Honorary degree recipients through their character, creativity, and contributions reflect the mission of the college.\u00a0<\/p>\n \t \t

The honorary degree is the highest honor that Macalester College bestows. As such, it is awarded sparingly, and the college selects its recipients with great care. Nominations will be accepted from members of the Macalester community – including students, staff, faculty, alumni, faculty emeriti, and trustees.<\/p>\n \t \t

Honorary degree nominations are received and reviewed by the Macalester Honorary Degree Committee. This committee is chaired by the Provost with representation from faculty, staff, and students.\u00a0<\/p>\n \t <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

Musician and activist Bob Mould ’82 is presented with an honorary degree by President Suzanne M. Rivera and Provost Lisa Anderson-Levy. Mr. Mould was the keynote speaker at the Commencement ceremony for the Class of 2025.<\/p>\n\t\t\t \t\t\t \t\t\t

Selection Process<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Nominations are accepted on a rolling basis, and the Honorary Degree Committee meets once per semester to consider nominations. A call for nominations will go out to the campus community prior to the fall and spring deadlines.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
