Barbara Stinson

As Study Away Finance and Data Specialist, I serve Macalester students as primary contact for the billing, financial, and insurance arrangements related to Study Away, and as lead in advising for a subset of Macalester Approved Study Away programs, including the majority of the direct enroll programs.   

My academic background and personal passion is in medieval art history, earning both my BA and MA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I first studied abroad in Northumbria on the border of England and Scotland, as an undergraduate, where I became captivated with the life and energy I discovered in ancient ruins and medieval architecture. Over the last fifteen years, I have had the privilege of co-leading medieval history, art & architecture short-term study away programs throughout the UK and elsewhere in western Europe with a senior faculty member at UW-Madison.

Prior to joining Macalester in 2015, I worked many years in multiple administrative and academic capacities within the University of WI system, always finding my direct interactions with students the most rewarding of all experiences. I initially moved to Saint Paul to live near our young grandchildren, and I am now thrilled to also be a member of Macalester’s study away team and active community. In my personal time, I enjoy sewing, reading, spending time with friends and family, and exploring all the fabulous sites and restaurants throughout the twin cities.
