Message from Dean Donna Maeda

Welcome to the 2021 Kofi Annan Institute for Global Citizenship Spring Celebration. Of course, we wish we were celebrating in person, but we are glad you’ve landed here to celebrate this year’s awardees with us.

Our congratulations go to the three winners of the Global Citizenship Student Awards, the Community Engagement Center awardees, recipients of Special Awards, participants in the Internship Program, and all students who have found ways to continue their education and engage in social movements and actions while navigating incredibly challenging circumstances.

On this page you will find comments from each of the Global Citizenship Student Awardees, descriptions and winners of the Community Engagement awards and Special Awards, and the annual IGC Celebration slideshow which features the range of activities in the IGC over the last year, including internships, Mellon Mays fellows, and Graduate School Exploration fellows. Typically, this page would also include the winners of the annual IGC photo contest, sponsored by the Center for Study Away, but this segment is absent this year, due to the pause in student study away experiences. We look forward to the return of the IGC photo contest.

Lastly, I’d like to thank the staff and student employees of the Kofi Annan Institute for Global Citizenship in the Center for Study Away, the Community Engagement Center, the Dean’s Office, and staff in Internships and in the DML for their ongoing partnerships in student engagement.

We hope you will explore the links here and enjoy this celebration of so much good work accomplished during a challenging time.
