3D Printing is free of charge for all faculty, students, and staff at Macalester College.<\/p>\n \t \t

For student prints that are not academic in nature, students will need to come to the DRC to print themselves. For academic prints and prints for faculty and staff, requests can be submitted online via the Academic 3D Printing Request Form (folks can also come in to 3D print themselves).<\/p>\n \t <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

Office Hours<\/h2>\n

3D Printing Options<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You have a few options for printing in the DRC: Printing with assistance from a 3D Print Lead, Self Service Printing, or Academic & Research Print Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Printing with Assistance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Students, faculty, and staff can visit the DRC during office hours or make an appointment to get help 3D printing something without going through training. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Make an Appointment or Drop in During Office Hours<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Make an appointment with a 3D Print Lead or drop in during office hours. They can consult with you on finding files to print, and can help you slice your print for one of our printers and get the print started for you. If you have a good idea of what you’d like to print and already have a file selected, this is usually around a half hour long appointment. If all of the printers are busy during your appointment, a 3D Print Lead will start your appointment during an open time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Watch for Communications<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

DRC staff will let you know if your print fails and there ended up being an issue with your print that needs to be resolved. DRC staff can help you with troubleshooting print settings for prints that fail. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pick up your print!<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Come by the DRC to pick up your print once it has finished. Your print will either be on the printer still or in the 3D Print pickup bin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Self Service Printing Process<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Anyone who would like to utilize the 3D printers in the DRC on their own <\/strong>will need to go through a short training and pass a quick quiz on 3D printing. Once a patron is 3D Print Trained, they will be able to use TechCheckout to book time on a 3D printer in the DRC. You\u2019re able to either reserve a printer in advance or drop in to see if a printer is free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go through Training & Certification<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Before you\u2019re able to reserve a printer, you\u2019ll need to go through some basic training on the DRC printers and how to 3D print (even if you\u2019re already familiar with 3D printing). You\u2019ll need to come to a 3D Printing Workshop, come by during office hours, or set up a one-on-one training with one of our 3D print leads. Training usually takes an hour or less. Scheduling with our 3D print leads will be available after add\/drop each semester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For 3D Printing Permissions, you’ll need to go through a quick certification quiz and do your first print with a 3D Print Lead. You can complete your first print at the end of your training session or schedule it for a later time.<\/p>\n\n\n
