Library 2nd floor renovation

March 20 2017

The library is embarking upon a renovation of our second floor. This space will support the Library’s vision of offering innovative services that encourage our community members to explore, create, and collaborate. Spaces that support these endeavors are proliferating in libraries and we are delighted to bring this long-term dream to fruition at Macalester. This plan includes incorporating Entrepreneurship since their space needs align well with what we envision. This space will complement the other areas of the library and will also offer more areas for working, studying and teaching. Books and information remain essential to our mission. Books currently on the 2nd floor stacks will be shifted to the other floors of the library to make room for these new spaces. The vast majority of the floor will be open for everyone in our community to use in ways that support both individual and group goals and needs.

This project is still in its beginning stages, but is moving fast so it can open for use in fall 2017. We know that the Wood Room, the Library Instruction Room, and Archives and Rare Books will remain and that two offices for Entrepreneurship and teaching space will be added. The Library and Entrepreneurship are actively soliciting input to ensure that the remaining, significant square footage is designed to respond to the needs of all of you. Current students, faculty and staff, please fill out our feedback form. All others please with your thoughts. Here are several opportunities to come together to learn more and share your ideas:
