Any device that can read the MacPass. There are a lot of them around campus: laundry control boxes, vending machines, terminals used at food service locations, and so on.
We offer more compact devices, such as tablets and phones, that can easily be taken to wherever the action is on Campus.
They can be used in any situation where you would like to record attendance, check out equipment, handle event tickets, or sell something. The device can only be used on Macalester’s campus.
Examples of when they might be useful:
Tracking attendance of a required meeting: Attendees swipe their card as they enter, and their attendance is recorded.
Checking out equipment: Swipe to check out, and swipe to check in. The system tracks who has what and when it’s due back.
Distributing and checking event tickets: Tickets can be put on cardholders’ accounts, and attendees simply swipe at the door to gain entrance
Fundraising: Food, gear, or anything else can be sold anywhere on campus. Cardholders simply pay with their Mac Money.

Card Services offers two options for using the device:
Request an expert: Upon request, and subject to availability, a member of the MacPass team will operate the device for you at your event. This leaves you to take care of all the other planning.
Request training: If you’d like to use the device yourself, or a MacPass team member is not available, we will train you to use the device and make sure you feel comfortable using it.
Submit a request for a card reading device at least 48 hours ahead of your event with the Card Reading Device Request Form and we will have it ready when you need it. For any other questions, please email us firstname.lastname@example.org
