She/Her/Hers

As the Writing & Academic Support Coordinator, Alyssa offers individualized support both for students working on writing assignments and other writing projects and for students seeking to develop more effective time management and study strategies. In this role, Alyssa also teaches Theory & Practice of Academic Writing (INTD 101), and collaborates with Writing Coordinator Jake Mohan and Director of Writing Brigetta (Britt) Abel to facilitate education and mentorship for the writing peer tutors.

In addition to Macalester, Alyssa has taught and worked in writing and learning centers at the University of St. Thomas, Dougherty Family College, and Saint Paul College. Alyssa is broadly interested in the construction of writerly identities and the relations of power that foster, constrain, and otherwise inform that construction. In both the writing center and the classroom, Alyssa works with students and tutors to query writing as a complex social activity rather than a list of incorrect/correct rules, and prioritizes the recursive process of drafting, feedback, and revision as both an effective set of writing practices and an ethic of care and community.
