Jake Mohan has taught creative writing, college composition, music writing, and journalism at the University of Minnesota, the Loft Literary Center, and McNally Smith College of Music. He received his MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Minnesota, his secondary teaching license through Grinnell College, his BA in English from Lawrence University, and is certified as a TESOL (Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages) instructor. Jake's areas of emphasis include writing instruction for English-Language Learners, anti-oppressive teaching and tutoring practices, and the sociolinguistic implications of writing pedagogy.
In addition to tutoring and supervising tutors at the MAX Center, Jake teaches English 101: College Writing every spring semester; coordinates the MAX Pairs sustained-practice tutoring programs; teaches the Supplemental Writing Workshop every fall, and assists with professional development for peer writing assistants embedded in First-Year Courses (FYC).
