Commitment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science (MSCS) department actively works towards creating an inclusive and respectful environment for everyone, across race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, age, disability, sexuality, gender identity, caregiver or parental status, marital status, and political affiliation as well as gender expression, health conditions, socioeconomic status or background, neurodiversity, immigrant status, and physical appearance. Macalester College\u2019s values unite us, and we celebrate our unique perspectives and life experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We acknowledge that creating a truly supportive and inclusive learning and work environment for all MSCS students, faculty, and staff is a continuous task that requires collaboration and commitment from each member of our community, students, staff, and faculty alike. Challenging cultural norms and dismantling structural oppression is hard and necessary. We are all learners and can self-educate and reflect on our role and responsibility in this work, in and out of the classroom. We look to students to partner with faculty and staff in championing these inclusion and equity efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inclusion and Equity Efforts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The MSCS department has committed to organizing community conversations to take stock, reflect on progress, and collectively agree on new efforts to improve the department. We outline current initiatives the MSCS department is engaged in to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within our community.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

MSCS Transformation Committee<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We have established a faculty\/staff committee dedicated to facilitating and coordinating department-level efforts for inclusionary and equity-minded practices and policies. The committee partners with members within and outside the MSCS community, such as the MSCS student advisory board, the VP of Institutional Equity, and the Title IX and Non-Discrimination Office. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
