The class introduces students to the field of ethnomusicology\u2014broadly defined as the cultural study of music. Most students are Music or Anthropology majors. Apart from writing, reading, and class discussion, students also develop laboratory skills of transcription, analysis, and audiovisual recording, leading to an individual ethnographic project
