Macalester College Art Exhibit to Feature Ceramic Artists

St. Paul, Minn. – New and recent work by ceramicists will be included in the exhibit “Clay Dwelling: An Exhibition of Six Ceramic Artists,” which opens at Macalester College at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, in the Art Gallery, 1665 Princeton Ave., St. Paul. The exhibit will run through Dec. 16.

“Clay Dwelling” is a group show presenting a diverse collection of work in an effort to document the wide range of practice among contemporary artists working with clay as a primary medium. The exhibition will include functional ceramics, sculptural works, vessels, and tiles. Pedestal, wall and installation works will all be represented.

The artists—Kelly Connole, Gary Erickson (a visiting assistant professor of art at Macalester), Adam Gruetzmacher, Kate Maury, Mika Negishi Laidlaw, and Todd Shanafelt—are from the Twin Cities and Mankato and Northfield, Minn.

The exhibition takes place in the gallery’s temporary home, a duplex at 1665 Princeton Avenue changed into a museum display space for the 2011-12 academic year while the Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center is being renovated and expanded. Each participating artist will have a room in the house for the display of his or her work.
