St. Paul, Minn. – Macalester is combining its college store and textbook operations and moving them to the newly renovated street level space in the Lampert Building, located at 32 Snelling Ave., So., St. Paul, Minn.

The new college store, expected to open in early November, will combine the Highlander general merchandise shop, currently located in the lower level of the Campus Center, and the college textbooks operation, now on the second floor of Lampert.  The size of the store will be modestly larger than any other previous incarnation of the Macalester college store.

This will be the first time in decades that Macalester has been able to offer a one-stop shopping experience for students, staff, faculty, parents, prospective students, and alumni.  College-related merchandise, supporting products, textbooks and other course materials will now be available in the newly combined college store.  Garrison Keillor’s bookstore, Common Good Books, in the adjacent suite, provides a complementary shopping opportunity in the Lampert building.

Follett Higher Education Group (FHEG) will manage the new store. Follett is the leading provider of campus bookstore services in North America.  With this new partnership, Macalester’s students will benefit from state-of-the-art access to an expansive inventory of course materials through a network of more than 7,000 publishers and providers, current types and styles of insignia merchandise, and an array of service options. Store customers will also enjoy significantly expanded on-line shopping access via Follett’s web portal, efollett, the nation’s most visited e-commerce collegiate website.

The Campus Center space vacated by the college store will be converted to a new student gathering and programming space.
