St. Paul, Minn. – Kofi Annan, Founding Chair of the Kofi Annan Foundation, the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations, winner of the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize, and member of the Macalester class of 1961, will be visiting campus Monday, May 7, 2018.
Following a unanimous vote by the Macalester College Board of Trustees, the Institute for Global Citizenship will be renamed the Kofi Annan Institute for Global Citizenship, in honor of Annan’s global leadership and dedication to peace. Macalester will re-dedicate the Institute during the Secretary-General’s return to his alma mater.
Annan last visited Macalester in 2009 when a life-sized bronze bust of him was unveiled, and in 2006, he was an inaugural speaker at Macalester’s then newly created Institute for Global Citizenship.
May 7 events include:
11:15 a.m. outside of Markim Hall: Dedication of the Kofi Annan Institute for Global Citizenship. All are welcome.
2 p.m. in Leonard Center Fieldhouse: A conversation with Kofi Annan ’61 and President Rosenberg. Tickets are required for this event. Doors open at 1 p.m. The event will be livestreamed at macalester.edu/live.
