Macalester exceeds campaign goal raising over $156 million during difficult financial time
Macalester College has exceeded its original comprehensive campaign goal of $150 million for its Step Forward campaign, the largest in the college’s history. The public phase of the campaign, which ran from October 10, 2008 – December 31, 2011, raised over $156 million.
Common Good Books Opens at Macalester
Common Good Books is opening a store at Macalester College, owner Garrison Keillor announced today. The independent bookstore will reside at 38 South Snelling Avenue in the 1923 Lampert Building, just north of the corner of Grand and Snelling avenues.

Dinosaur bone is largest osteoderm ever found
What more can we learn about long-necked dinosaurs that we don’t already know? A Macalester professor and her colleagues have found that Madagascar dinosaurs carried giant, hollow bones in their skin that may have helped them survive the harsh environments they inhabited. This discovery has shed new light on the anatomy and function of these bones in the biggest animals to ever walk on land.
Macalester College Art Exhibit to Feature Ceramic Artists
New and recent work by ceramicists will be included in the exhibit “Clay Dwelling: An Exhibition of Six Ceramic Artists,” which opens at Macalester College at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, in the Art Gallery, 1665 Princeton Ave., St. Paul. The exhibit will run through Dec. 16.

Macalester College Hosts Speaker on Performance Anxiety
Performance anxiety expert Sian Beilock will speak at Macalester College on Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, in Weyerhaeuser Memorial Chapel, 1600 Grand Ave., St. Paul. Beilock, a psychology professor at the University of Chicago and a former college athlete, is author of the book Choke: What the Secrets of the Brain Reveal About Getting it Right When You Have To. Her talk, which is free and open to the public, begins at 8 p.m.
Macalester Grants Tenure Status to Juliette M. Rogers
Macalester College has granted tenure status to Juliette M. Rogers, associate professor in the French and Francophone Studies Department. Rogers holds a BA from Oberlin College and a PhD from Duke University. She came to Macalester from the University of New Hampshire, Durham, where she was an associate professor of French. She joined the Macalester faculty in 2010.
Wesley and Lynn Edens establish endowed professorship in global health
Wesley and Lynn Edens of New York have established a $2 million endowed professorship at Macalester College. It will be named the Edens Professorship in Global Health.

Macalester co-hosts national Imagining America conference Sept. 22-24
Macalester College is co-hosting the 11th annual Imagining America: Artists and Scholars in Public Life (IA), national conference Sept. 22-24 in Minneapolis and St. Paul. The conference will have more than 400 attendees including faculty, administrators, and students from IA colleges and universities across the country, as well as leaders of local and national arts and cultural organizations.
Leonards establish endowed professorship in math and science
Mark G. Leonard ’65 and Candace Hewitt Leonard ’67 of Los Altos, Calif., have established a $2 million endowed professorship at Macalester College. It will be named the Mark G. Leonard and Candace Hewitt Leonard Endowed Professorship in Mathematics and the Natural Sciences.
