Student organization Adelante celebrated Día de los Muertos, a latin american holiday to honor loved ones and they pass onto the next world. Traditional celebrations include constructing an alter, which the students recreated here at Macalester.

Family Fest Petting Zoo
During Family Fest in October, a temporary petting zoo was set up on outside of Old Main. It was sponsored by the Program Board.

Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center Renovation – Fall 2011
After tremendous progress this summer, the Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center renovation and expansion’s first phase officially reached the halfway point this month.
My Latest Obsession

On Saturday 17 September 2011, the MSCS department hosted the the third annual C*SM*S Scavenger Hunt. Students solved a series of eight puzzles whose answers led students to the hidden location of the next puzzle on the Macalester campus.
Residential Life staff hosted a courtyard party for dorm residents, complete with pizza, smores, hot chocolate and the DJ club.
Kagin Ice Cream Social
Kagin Commons held its annual Ice Cream Social & Open House. Community members learned more about what happens in the Kagin bulilding. Staff, tutors, counselors, and fellow students from the MAX Center, Multicultural Life, Internship Programs, Sustainability, and Career Development Center, were there to greet and serve ice cream until it ran out.
Nice Ride Dedication
Mac just keeps getting greener. The latest fuel-saving innovation added a station for the Twin Cities public bike-sharing program Nice Ride. The program started last year in Minneapolis, where it enjoyed great success. The station was officially dedicated with a ribbon cutting ceremony in mid-September 2011.
Former Vice President Walter Mondale ’50 and A Prairie Home Companion host Garrison Keillor spoke at Macalester's opening convocation. Their talk, “A conversation about life and politics,” featured remarks from Keillor and Mondale about the state of the nation followed by a Q & A session moderated by President Rosenberg.
Following the academic year's opening Convocation with Walter Mondale and Garrison Keillor as guest speakers, Macalester held an all-campus picnic.
Students interested in joining one of Macalester's student-run groups were able to talk to members during Taste of Service, an annual event that encourages students to get involved.
