Below are highlights from January and February 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The most ethical<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Macalester Forensics Ethics Bowl team won the Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl National Championship, defeating Stanford by one point in the final round. This marks Macalester\u2019s second national championship in three years. Coached by <\/span><b>Casey Moerer &#8217;23<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the team included <\/span><b>Sihaam Barre \u201928<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><b>Madeleine Heafey \u201928<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><b>Colette Lawler \u201927<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><b>Vin Leang \u201927<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><b>R\u016bta Rupeikyte \u201927<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and <\/span><b>Eva Sturm \u201926<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The competition brought together 36 teams of undergraduate students from across the country to analyze and discuss ethical dilemmas on topics such as space weaponization, tracking devices, tipping culture, and food waste. Nearly 200 teams compete in regional events each fall to qualify. Watch the final round <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/live\/32VP7RKbV2g\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ultimate goals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Kyle Suelflow \u201926<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/usaultimate.org\/news\/2024\/12\/u-24-national-team-selected-for-2025-worlds\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">named<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to the USA Ultimate Under-24 Mixed National Team, which will compete in the World Flying Disc Federation World Under-24 Ultimate Championships in Logro\u00f1o, Spain in June. His brother <\/span><b>Owen Suelflow \u201926 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">was named as one of Ultiworld\u2019s breakout players of the year. Both played for Drag\u2019n Thurst, a mixed club team that tied for third at nationals in November.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt is not very often that Division III players get the chance to play at this national team level, and I\u2019m so excited to prove that I belong,\u201d Kyle said. \u201cHopefully people in the ultimate community can start to see Macalester as a frisbee school.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"206\" src=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/160-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/653\/2025\/02\/suelflow-ultimate-frisbee-300x206.jpg\" alt=\"Kyle and Owen Suelflow\" class=\"wp-image-26831\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/653\/2025\/02\/suelflow-ultimate-frisbee-300x206.jpg 300w,  https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/653\/2025\/02\/suelflow-ultimate-frisbee.jpg 539w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A powerful voice for higher education<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><b>President Suzanne Rivera<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was selected to serve in two new leadership roles at national and international organizations dedicated to higher education. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cic.edu\/news\/elects-6-new-board-members\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Council of Independent Colleges<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> announced that she is one of six new board members for the organization, which works to support college leadership, advance institutional excellence, and promote understanding of independent higher education\u2019s important contributions to society. President Rivera also was appointed to the Presidential Ambassadors Council of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aieaworld.org\/aiea-presidential-ambassadors-council.html#gsc.tab=0\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Association of International Education Administrators<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, an organization dedicated to equipping leaders to shape the future of higher education in a global context.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A winning first verse<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Sarah Ghazal Ali, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">assistant professor of English, won the Great Lakes Colleges Association <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.glca.org\/faculty\/new-writers-award\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">New Writers Award<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for her debut poetry collection, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alicejamesbooks.org\/bookstore\/theophanies?srsltid=AfmBOoo6gBdK9lDlyXlFvphdiWs3HS46zAcjOQuUIEdRj0VccUe0KqZg\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Theophanies<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The award recognizes promising writers who have published a first volume in either poetry, fiction, or creative nonfiction. Winning writers receive invitations to visit association member colleges, where they give readings, meet with students and faculty members, and discuss technique and creativity in the writing process.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">About her book, the judges <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.glca.org\/glca-announces-winner-of-2024-new-writers-award-2\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">note<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">: \u201cWith language that is both luxuriant and spiked, the poems in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Theophanies<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> are tender, with a soft and quiet voice that transforms their contemplations into powerful meditations on religion, gender, and philosophical thought.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"277\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/160-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/653\/2025\/02\/4-Sarah-Ghazal-Ali-277x300.jpg\" alt=\"Sarah Ghazal Ali\" class=\"wp-image-26833\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/653\/2025\/02\/4-Sarah-Ghazal-Ali-277x300.jpg 277w,  https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/653\/2025\/02\/4-Sarah-Ghazal-Ali.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 277px) 100vw, 277px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A big stage for big ideas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Zhijun He \u201926<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was invited to present research at the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mpsanet.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Midwest Political Science Association Conference<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in Chicago, one of the largest political science conferences in the field, with over 4,500 presenters from more than 65 countries.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis provides an excellent platform to share findings on the impact of the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries Initiative on development in Ghana and Zambia,\u201d he said. \u201cThis analysis helps us understand whether and how international debt relief programs contribute to economic and social development in recipient countries.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The program committee selected He to present through a competitive review process. The conference provides valuable networking opportunities and the chance to receive feedback from leading scholars in political science.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scholarship meets social change<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Macalester graduate <\/span><b>Abaki Beck \u201915 <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/diversity.umn.edu\/student-financial-aid\/scholarly-excellence-equity-and-diversity-seed-award\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">received<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> the University of Minnesota\u2019s Scholarly Excellence in Equity and Diversity Awards, which honor underrepresented undergraduate, graduate, and professional students for their outstanding work in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion while at the University of Minnesota and in the community.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Beck researches the intersection of incarceration, criminalization, and health within the Health Services Research, Policy and Administration PhD program at the School of Public Health on the Twin Cities campus. The awards range from $3,000 to $5,000 for one academic year.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tops statewide<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Several Macalester faculty members were named as finalists for the 2025 Minnesota Book Awards, selected by 30 judges from around the state. <\/span><b>Dr. Lisa Mueller<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, associate professor and chair of political science, was selected for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beacon.org\/The-New-Science-of-Social-Change-P2107.aspx\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The New Science of Social Change: A Modern Handbook for Activists<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in the general nonfiction category. In the poetry category, English Professor <\/span><b>Sarah Ghazal Ali<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alicejamesbooks.org\/bookstore\/theophanies\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Theophanies<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was selected as a finalist. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Former English faculty member <\/span><b>Sally Franson<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was named a finalist in the genre fiction category, with<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harpercollins.com\/products\/big-in-sweden-sally-franson\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Big in Sweden<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The winners will be announced in a ceremony April 22 at the Ordway in St. Paul.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Making history in healthcare<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Macalester graduate and trustee emeritus <\/span><b>Lois Quam \u201983<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was named CEO of Blue Shield of California, the first woman to serve as CEO in the organization\u2019s 86-year history. She joined the company as president in 2024.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cFor her entire life, Lois has worked to make health care better and more affordable for people from all walks of life,\u201d said Kristina (Kris) Leslie, chair of the Blue Shield of California Board of Directors, in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.blueshieldca.com\/2025\/01\/08\/lois-quam-named-ceo-of-blue-shield-of-california-first-woman-ceo-in-organizations-86-year-history\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">news release<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI am focused on the challenges facing our members in every corner of our state, who gather at their kitchen tables and wrestle with their healthcare decisions and whether they can afford them. As the only statewide nonprofit health plan, we can help make those conversations \u2014 and their lives \u2014 better,\u201d Quam said.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Empowering students to repair and reuse<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Mansergh-Stuessy Fund <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/manserghstuessyfund.org\/awards-by-year\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">awarded<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> a $2,500 grant for Macalester\u2019s Sustainability Office to advance their \u201cEmpowering Students to Repair and Reuse\u201d project. The Mansergh-Stuessy Fund supports one-year seed grants for innovative ideas developed and implemented by Gustavus Adolphus College, Hamline University, and Macalester College in Minnesota.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mac athletes make the grade<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced that 101 student-athletes from Macalester earned a spot on the Fall 2024 Academic All-Conference team. This is the highest number of fall honorees for Macalester, surpassing the previous high of 99 set in 2022-23.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To earn Academic All-Conference honors, MIAC student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale while having completed one full-time academic year at their current institution prior to becoming eligible for the award.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Civically engaged and nationally recognized<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Dr. Dan Trudeau<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, professor and chair of geography, was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/compact.org\/news\/campus-compact-announces-2025-impact-award-recipients\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">recognized as a finalist<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for the Thomas Ehrlich Civically Engaged Faculty Award from Campus Compact. The award recognizes senior faculty members for exemplary engaged scholarship, including leadership in advancing students\u2019 civic learning, conducting community-based research, fostering reciprocal community partnerships, building institutional commitments to service-learning and civic engagement, and enhancing higher education\u2019s contributions to the public good.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cCommunity-engaged research is a core part of what I do as an educator in the Geography Department at Macalester, so I am honored and proud to be recognized by a national organization as a leader in this area,\u201d Prof. Trudeau said.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" src=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/160-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/653\/2025\/02\/11-Daniel-Trudeau.jpg\" alt=\"Professor Dan Trudeau and his class at the East Side Freedom Library\" class=\"wp-image-26837\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/653\/2025\/02\/11-Daniel-Trudeau.jpg 400w,  https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/653\/2025\/02\/11-Daniel-Trudeau-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>Professor Dan Trudeau and his GEOG 277 class (Qualitative Research Methods in Human Geography) at East Side Freedom Library with Professor Emeritus Peter Rachleff<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A governor\u2019s vote of confidence<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Governor Tim Walz appointed Macalester graduate <\/span><b>Audrey Partridge \u201907<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> as commissioner of the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cPartridge is a proven leader with expertise in regulatory policy and extensive background in energy and environmental work,\u201d said Governor Walz in a press release. \u201cShe will be an effective leader, positioned to guide Minnesota towards 100 percent clean energy while ensuring the delivery of safe, reliable, and sustainable utility services across the state.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Partridge, the director of policy for the Center for Energy and Environment, expressed gratitude for the appointment.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI will work each and every day to meet Minnesota\u2019s ambitious\u202fclean energy goals, while\u202fmaintaining affordability and reliability, and supporting Minnesota\u2019s communities and our highly skilled energy workforce,\u201d she said.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fast in the pool, sharp in school<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association selected Macalester\u2019s men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming and diving teams for their Scholar All-America award.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This recognition honors programs that achieve the highest standards in the classroom while representing their institution in the pool.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cCoach <\/span><b>Kyllian Griffin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, their staff, and the entire team have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to success both academically and athletically, setting a standard of excellence we can all be proud of,\u201d the association said.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hitting all the right notes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Macalester graduate <\/span><b>Ross Hutchens \u201915 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">won a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/composersforum.org\/programs\/mcknight-composer-fellowships\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">McKnight Composer Fellowship<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The McKnight Artist &amp; Culture Bearer Fellowships Program provides annual, unrestricted cash awards to outstanding mid-career Minnesota artists in 15 different creative disciplines. Hutchens will receive a $25,000 fellowship in unrestricted funds, the opportunity to attend an artist residency program coordinated by the Artist Communities Alliance, financial support up to $3,500 to develop works-in-progress, and other resources.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hutchens, aka Lonefront, is a multi-instrumentalist. He began with the violin at an early age and earned a bachelor\u2019s degree from Macalester in music with a focus on jazz guitar. He eventually shifted toward audio engineering, transitioning into performing live sets using hardware and modular synthesizers as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lonefront.com\/about\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lonefront<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bringing vision to the board<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Saint Paul &amp; Minnesota Foundation, Minnesota\u2019s largest community foundation, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/spmcf.org\/team\/christine-marvin\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">elected<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Macalester graduate <\/span><b>Christine Marvin \u201903 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to its Board of Directors. As chief marketing and experience officer at Marvin, she leads brand growth strategies and marketing and customer experience teams. Passionate about community development and engagement, she volunteers for several causes and nonprofit organizations. Marvin holds a psychology degree from Macalester and an MBA from the University of Denver.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Right on target<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Dowvince (Yucen) Pan<\/b> <b>\u201928<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is a world champion in archery. He recently represented his home country, the People\u2019s Republic of China, at an Indoor World Series event in Chicago, one of the six indoor tournaments happening around the world in 2025. He won the Recurve Under 21 Men\u2019s Division championship, and is near the top of the rankings worldwide in this group. Pan, a geography major, competes frequently in tournaments in the U.S. and internationally.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Data insights from Iceland<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Dr. Alix Johnson<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, professor of international studies,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">won the Best First Book Award for 2025 from the Society for Cinema and Media Studies. Since 1971, the society has annually honored the year\u2019s best in cinema and media studies scholarship, teaching, and professional service. Professor Johnson\u2019s book, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Where Cloud is Ground: Placing Data and Making Place in Iceland<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, is the result of years of ethnographic research into Iceland\u2019s growing data storage industry. More information about the book is available <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/160-news\/2024\/01\/new-book-from-international-studies-professor-explores-icelands-booming-data-storage-industry\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Book smart<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Ginny Moran &#8217;90<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, research and instruction librarian, was selected as an M. C. Lang Fellow in Book History, Bibliography, and Humanities Teaching with Historical Sources, a competitive two-year program. She noted that the fellowship highlights Macalester\u2019s commitment to using rare books and special collections to create impactful student experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As a fellow, Moran will explore book history and bibliography, gaining hands-on experience to enhance teaching with historical sources. Her research will support a course she is developing, Alternative Libraries and Info Shops, which examines how people collect and share information. Murphy Gallery at St. Catherine University in St. Paul <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gallery.stkate.edu\/exhibition\/reflections-and-conversations-monica-rudquist-and-jerry-rudquist\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">showcases the work<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> of Macalester alumna <\/span><b>Monica Rudquist \u201983<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and her father and former art professor <\/span><b>Jerry Rudquist<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Reflections and Conversations<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> explores the visual connections between Monica\u2019s ceramic art and the paintings of her late father (1934-2001), who taught painting at Macalester for 45 years.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Filming the forever chemicals story<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Kofi Annan Institute for Global Citizenship named <\/span><b>Dr. Morgan Adamson<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, professor and chair of media and cultural studies, as the 2025-2026 Faculty Fellow. Prof. Adamson, who works at the intersections of nonfiction film and cultural studies, will engage the Macalester and Twin Cities communities in producing <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Forever and Forever and Forever<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, an experimental documentary film that follows communities in the East Metro as they come to terms with their own toxic legacy as the birthplace of forever chemicals. The institute praised Adamson\u2019s work as aligning with its mission to foster critical global engagement, examine power structures, and impact social change.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fulbright excellence, year after year<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The U.S. Department of State\u2019s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs recognized Macalester College as a Fulbright Top Producing Institution for having one of the highest numbers of students selected for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program.
