In addition, Ryan Connor \u201925 and Anna Jensen \u201925 received USTA-Fulbright awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Fulbright participants, all recipients will study, conduct research, and teach abroad for the 2025-2026 academic year through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program or related Fulbright partnerships abroad. Recipients of Fulbright awards are selected in an open, merit-based competition that considers leadership potential, academic and\/or professional achievement, and record of service. As Fulbright alumni, their careers are enriched by joining a network of thousands of esteemed alumni, many of whom are leaders in their fields. Fulbright alumni include 62 Nobel Prize laureates, 89 Pulitzer Prize recipients, and 42 who have served as a head of state or government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Five students received awards for English Teaching Assistantships:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Audrey Hartmann \u201925 will teach English in Spain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cecilia (Ceil) Maus-Conn \u201924 will teach English in Taiwan<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adrian Riesgo \u201925 will teach English in South Korea<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Simon (Adley) Schwartz \u201925 will teach English in Guatemala<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>William Chapman-Renaud \u201925 will teach English in Germany<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>One student received a Study\/Research grant:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Grace McDonough \u201924 will conduct research in Ireland<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Two students received USTA-Fulbright awards:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ryan Connor \u201925 and Anna Jensen \u201925 will teach English in Austria.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, a record 18 out of 29 applicants from Macalester were named semifinalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese eight students carry on a proud tradition at Macalester, which is a top-producer of Fulbright recipients,\u201d said President Suzanne Rivera. \u201cWe wish them well as they take advantage of this invaluable opportunity to experience the world and build bridges across cultures.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government\u2019s flagship international educational exchange program and is supported by the people of the United States and partner countries around the world. Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided more than 400,000 participants from over 160 countries the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas, and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns. The primary source of funding for the Fulbright program is an annual appropriation by the U.S. Congress to the U.S. Department of State\u2019s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Participating governments and host institutions, corporations and foundations in foreign countries and in the United States also provide direct and indirect support.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is administered at Macalester through Dr. Brigetta (Britt) Abel, Director of Writing and the MAX Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ethics Bowl team wins 2025 national championship<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/philosophy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/583\/2025\/12\/ethics-win-1080x0-c-default-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-781\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/philosophy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/583\/2025\/12\/ethics-win-1080x0-c-default-1024x576.jpg 1024w,  https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/philosophy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/583\/2025\/12\/ethics-win-1080x0-c-default-300x169.jpg 300w,  https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/philosophy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/583\/2025\/12\/ethics-win-1080x0-c-default-768x432.jpg 768w,  https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/philosophy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/583\/2025\/12\/ethics-win-1080x0-c-default.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Macalester Forensics Ethics Bowl team (Sihaam Barre \u201928, Madeleine Heafey \u201928, Colette Lawler \u201927, Vin Leang \u201927, R\u016bta Rupeikyte \u201927, and Eva Sturm \u201926) and Coach Casey Moerer &#8217;23<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Macalester\u2019s Ethics Bowl team defeated Stanford University to win the 2025 National Ethics Bowl Championship in the APPE Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl (APPE IEB) on February 23 in Norfolk, Virginia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the team\u2019s second national title in three years. Sihaam Barre \u201928, Madeleine Heafey \u201928, Philosophy Major <strong>Colette Lawler \u201927<\/strong>, Vin Leang \u201927, R\u016bta Rupeikyte \u201927, and Eva Sturm \u201926 make up the team, which is led by Coach Casey Moerer \u201823.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMacalester\u2019s victory is a testament to the passion and dedication of these students. Not only did they work countless hours researching and deliberating on these cases, but they came to every practice and every round of the tournament truly loving this activity.
