Hannah Ankeny—2010 Fellow

Hannah Ankeny

As a Chuck Green Fellow, I had the privilege of partnering with the Office for Social Justice (OSJ), a division of the Archdiocesan Catholic Charities which promotes justice for poor and underrepresented communities through legislative advocacy, partnerships with neighborhood coalitions, and by providing social justice resources and training to churches. The reason I chose to partner with OSJ was to expand Justice for Immigrants-Minnesota (JFI-MN), a statewide coalition of Catholics dedicated to comprehensive immigration reform. During my ten week fellowship, I directed a short film on anti-immigration proposals in the Minnesota House, met with immigration and religious leaders from across the state, and expanded JFI-MN membership from approximately 250 to nearly 500 people Finally, I compiled a leadership manual for Cultural Enrichment Tours which invite persons who live outside the metro area to explore the economic and cultural contributions of past and present immigrant communities in the Twin Cities.
