Violence and Human Rights in Palestine and Israel

A message from President Suzanne Rivera

Dear Macalester Campus Community:

The increased violence over the last few weeks in Israel and Palestine is deeply upsetting. Some Mac students and alumni have been affected personally. Other members of the Mac community who live in the U.S. have loved ones currently in danger.

Consistent with our values, Macalester condemns violence. We affirm the human rights of Mac’s Palestinian students and alumni who seek self-determination. We grieve with those in our community who have lost loved ones in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza. We support the call for a just peace in the region.

To help our community process and reflect on these recent events, campus leaders have come together to plan a panel discussion that will be held this Thursday from 1-2 pm CT. Please see details and registration instructions below.

Zoom Panel Discussion This Thursday: What’s Happening in the Middle East?

Please join Professor Andy Overman of Classical Mediterranean & Middle East, and other members of the Mac community on Thursday, May 27 at 1 pm CT for a panel discussion about the recent surge in violence in Israel-Gaza and the West Bank. What can we do? What does the future hold? If you are interested in these questions, please feel free to join us for this important discussion.

A Macalester email address is required to participate.
