From Jerry Crawford ’71, chair of Macalester’s Board of Trustees:

To The Macalester Community:

We have a big job ahead of us – replacing President Brian Rosenberg, who has served our college boldly and loyally over the past 16 years and will leave us in May of next year. That said, we’re conducting this search during a time of incredible strength for Macalester.

In my role as chair of the Board of Trustees, I am writing to share with you the progress the Board has made in preparing to launch this search.

First, after talking with a number of search firms, the Board has voted unanimously to hire Spencer Stuart to manage the search based on its experience successfully leading searches for many highly selective colleges and universities. I’d like to invite faculty, staff, and students to join Spencer Stuart as they come to campus to hear from our community about what attributes the next president should possess. The schedule for those on-campus meetings will be shared via email. In the next few weeks, alumni, faculty, staff, students, and current parents will receive an email with a link to a survey asking for their input. Our goal is to have as many members of the Macalester community participate as possible. At any point during the search, if you have input to share, please send it to MacalesterPresident@spencerstuart.com.

Second, we are in the process of forming the Presidential Search Committee. The committee will engage the Macalester community actively in the search, review the credentials of interested candidates, select a group of finalists to interview, and present to the Board one or more candidates they believe are best prepared to lead the college into the future. The committee will include representatives from across the campus community including faculty, staff/administration, students, alumni, and members of the Board. Being a member of this committee will require a significant time commitment, and I am deeply grateful to each of them for their willingness to serve Macalester in this way.

I look forward to sharing updates with you as the search progresses.

Sincerely,

Jerry
