Hamline Midway: Hamline-Midway Neighborhood Resiliency Climate Project

Recipients: Hamline-Midway Environmental Group

The Hamline-Midway Environmental Group (HMEG) aims to create and support a healthy and sustainable environment in the Hamline-Midway neighborhood of Saint Paul. HMEG activities highlight subjects such as neighborhood trees, community gardens, local food production, recycling, composting, energy conservation, sustainable land use, transportation, native plants, and storm water useage, all relevant to our specific geographic urban neighborhood.

Project: Listening Sessions to Build Neighborhood Resiliency

The Hamline-Midway Environmental group set up a series of three listening sessions for the community members of the Hamline-Midway neighborhood. The purpose of these listening sessions is to To identify, record, and share experiences and wisdom related to resilience within the community. The speakers at these sessions were key elders from the community, who have had experience with these issues in the past and can help others be more readily prepared. This project also aims to create a “buddy system” in the community for everyday needs, and in the case of a disaster or extreme weather event.
