Buddhism, Mindfulness & Meditation
Meditation is offered weekly at Macalester because we recognize it as a wholesome, time tested practice shared by many spiritual traditions. It is also increasingly practiced by people outside of any particular traditions. We offer both the meditation sessions and the Sound bath as a way to support the student, staff, and faculty that identify as Buddhists and seek to ground their ongoing practice here on campus.
The CRSL offers three weekly meditation sessions, and a bi-weekly sound bath. Each are open to all students, staff, and faculty. They are free of charge and suitable for experienced meditators as well as beginners. The weekly sessions include seated meditation, walking meditation, and short discussions on topics relevant to the practice of meditation. The Sound baths are an immersive experience in soothing tones which bring the listener in deep states of relaxation and have a healing effect on the body, mind and heart. All of the events are facilitated by our Buddhist Chaplain Marc Anderson. All events happen in the Macalester Weyerhaeuser Chapel.
