The Serie Center announces a new pilot co-mentoring program designed by and for non-tenure track (NTT) faculty members.  The pilot program will run for two years and then be evaluated to determine whether it should continue or how it might be improved to better meet the needs and interests of the NTT faculty.  Grounded in principles of cooperation and mutual support, the program ultimately seeks to strengthen the relationships that form the basis of a strong academic community.

Program Goals:

  • Assist NTT faculty in sharing their experiences and work as teachers, scholars, and college/disciplinary citizens
  • Support NTT colleagues who will be going through the new NTT review process
  • Help NTT faculty colleagues discover opportunities and benefits available to Macalester faculty in their pedagogical and professional work
  • Enhance opportunities for NTT faculty to feel more connected to one another and the Macalester community

This co-mentoring program provides NTT faculty members a confidential space to discuss and reflect on their Macalester experiences with trusted colleagues who will not judge them.

Program Process:

All NTT faculty members may participate in this program.  Participants agree to meet for a period of one year and to help the Serie Center to evaluate the program.  Each group will be comprised of three individuals, one of whom agrees to take responsibility for convening the group (approximately) on a monthly basis, set up meeting locations, send out reminders etc.  Conveners will receive a $100.00 stipend for providing this service to their group.

Each group may request the addition of a fourth member who has previously gone through the “Senior Lecturer” process at Macalester, or who has recently gone through the new NTT Assistant Professor review process, or who has been a full-time NTT faculty member for many years, or who has been a NTT member but is now a tenure-track faculty member at Macalester.  The purpose of inviting these “fourth member” colleagues will be so that they may share their experiences and provide advice and assistance to other groups members who have yet to go through review.  To request a fourth member and identify apporpriate potential faculty members for your group, conveners should contact Serie Center Director, Adrienne Christiansen at [email protected].  If the additional “fourth” faculty member agrees to participate and play this advisory role, they will receive a $200.00 stipend.

All groups may request to meet for a second year; participants in the program may also ask to meet in a new group configuration during 2017-2018.

Please indicate your interest in participating in these co-mentoring groups by registering by October 15.  Groups will be organized immediately and, if desired, can begin meeting during the fall term.  For more information, contact Adrienne Christiansen at [email protected]
