The Writing Director collaborates with faculty across the disciplines who are interested in incorporating or improving writing instruction in their classes. She follows a guiding principle: that for writing pedagogy to work well, it needs to fit with the overall learning goals of a class and a field of study, the strengths and personality of the teacher, and the needs of the students. Hence, during individual consultations, the faculty member and the Writing Director engage in a conversation about what writing can do for the professor and the students in a given class. Together, they reflect, collaborate, and problem solve. Based on the information that emerges, the Writing Director makes suggestions, offers resources, and arranges further support as needed to ensure that the faculty member successfully meets his or her goals.
