Standard Stars

Eric William Carroll

Eric William Carroll’s interests like in the intersection of science, nature, and photography.  His work is concerned with the historical uses of photography to structure, organize, and represent our understanding of the natural world.  He is particularly interested in how the subjective qualities of humans manifest in the objective aesthetics of science.  This exhibition of his project “Standard Stars” draws from Carroll’s research at the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute located an hour outside of Asheville, North Carolina in the small town of Rosman and surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest.
