Department Coordinator

Carnegie Hall, 207

As the department coordinator, Angie serves as the first point of contact for the Sociology department assisting students and the community with information or redirecting them to the most appropriate resources. Angie works with the department chair to coordinate all activities in the Sociology department, oversees all Sociology department events, guest speakers and seminars, manages the budgets, and supports the work of student groups in the department. Angie also hires and supervises the department’s student employees. She works closely with other departments on campus, including the Alumni, Career Development, and Communications Offices, to help provide the best experiences for students while on campus and help prepare them for their experiences beyond Macalester.

Angie has her Master’s degree in Public Policy from the Humphrey Institute and a BA in English from St. Olaf College.  She worked at the Minnesota State Senate for over a decade and is an endurance sports coach writing training plans for athletes and teaching endurance sports classes. A former Peace Corps volunteer Angie relishes the interaction with Macalester international students and the culture awareness that is present at Macalester. Volunteering at the German Immersion school where her children attend is important to her. Her husband, two young children, three animals, and various endurance sports activities fill her life outside work.
