Here\u2019s a brief summary of what we covered.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Tom Halverson, Dean of the Faculty,<\/strong> provided an overview of the recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/trustees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Board of Trustees<\/a> retreat that included a pair of plenary sessions. In the first, Dr. Marjorie Hass, president of the <a href=\"https:\/\/cic.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Council of Independent Colleges<\/a>, presented to the board on the topic of \u201cHeadwinds Facing Higher Education and Small Liberal Arts Colleges\u201d and in the second, Dr. Earl Lewis, president emeritus of the Mellon Foundation and founding director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lsa.umich.edu\/social-solutions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Center for Social Solutions<\/a> and professor of history at the University of Michigan, led a discussion on \u201cThe Role of Equity and Inclusion in Higher Education.\u201d In addition, the board received an update from Campbell &amp; Company, consultants on our next fundraising campaign, and conducted a business meeting that included approval of funding for the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/presentation\/d\/1csDxDFvNkxIFnbCpzCZpF3GCg0leK0idHoskdmFs8Ro\/edit?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Campus Center renovation <\/a>that will happen this summer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Paul Overvoorde, Vice Provost and Associate Dean of the Faculty<\/strong>, thanked members of the Strategic Plan Implementation Working Groups whose year-long commitment drew to a close just before spring break. The co-chairs of these groups will share written recommendations and discuss the academic year\u2019s work with the senior leadership team.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A progress report on the implementation of the&nbsp;<em>Imagine, Macalester&nbsp;<\/em>strategic plan is available as a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/strategic-plan\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/348\/2024\/03\/SPI-Progress-85x11Date.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PDF file<\/a>&nbsp;and included on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/strategic-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Strategic Plan website<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over&nbsp;the summer, in addition to the physical improvements that we\u2019ve described previously, work in support of the strategic plan will include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Workshops to prepare three pilot <em>Introduction to the Liberal Arts<\/em> first-year courses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participation of a Macalester team in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aacu.org\/event\/institute-on-high-impact-practices\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AAC&amp;U Institute on High-impact Practices<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Onboarding of an Associate Dean for Advising<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The second <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/seriecenter\/transforming-our-pedagogies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transformative Pedagogies: Summer Institute<\/a> hosted by the Serie Center<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pilot changes to Orientation dates and structure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fundraising campaign planning and preparation for a year-end launch<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Joan Ostrove, Director of the Serie Center, and Nancy Bostrom, Associate Director of Assessment<\/strong>, provided an update from the Student Learning Committee on the revisions to the statement of educational outcomes. Joan and Nancy asked participants to provide feedback on the revised version of the statement of educational outcomes.
