Studio Art Renovation and Expansion

President Brian Rosenberg

The new Studio Art space is purposeful and practical, with enough room for sculpture, drawing, printmaking, and 2D design. Along with the Music building and recently completed Art Commons, Macalester has built quality art facilities for our students, faculty, staff and community to use and enjoy.

AA new era for the arts

The Step Forward campaign launched the Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center's renovation and expansion, beginning with the music building, arts commons and gallery that opened in 2012. In January 2013, construction began on the next project: the studio art building. Completed a year later, the studio art building features expanded, flexible spaces and studios that will draw more students into the arts than previous facilities could ever accommodate.

Connected to the arts commons that has already become a vibrant campus hub, the renovated spaces continue reframing the complex as a gathering place for students, faculty, staff, and visitors—bringing the Macalester community to art, and art to the Macalester community.
